What is Paint Correction?

Paint correction is the process of permanently removing imperfections from your car’s clear coat, swirl marks, light scratches, water spots, oxidation, and that dull haze that builds up from improper washing and everyday driving.

It’s not a wax, a polish, or a quick shine service. It’s the careful removal of a thin layer of clear coat using professional-grade compounds and paint-safe machine polishers, done in stages, refined panel by panel, and checked under direct lighting until every defect is gone.

The result is paint that reflects light the way it did the day your car rolled off the factory line, deeper color, sharper reflections, and a finish that turns heads across NJ. Our Sea Girt and Toms River studio handles every stage of this process in-house, under full control from start to finish. Book your paint correction appointment today and see the difference for yourself.

If Your Paint Has Any Of These, We Can Fix It.

Every car across New Jersey picks up damage over time, from bad washes, sun exposure, and everyday driving. Here’s what our paint correction process removes, so your car looks and feels new again.

Scratch Repair

Parking lot dings, dealership prep marks, everyday wear and tear, most surface scratches can be corrected as long as they're still within the clear coat layer.

Water Spots and Mineral Etching

Rain, sprinklers, and hard water leave mineral deposits behind that bond to the clear coat if left too long, leaving a spotty, etched look. We remove them before they cause lasting damage, bringing your paint back to a smooth, clear finish.

Oxidation and Faded Paint

Sun exposure and age cause paint to lose its shine, turning it dull, chalky, or faded over time. We correct oxidation and bring back the deep color and true gloss your paint had when it was new.

Holograms and Buffer Trails

Those faint circular marks left behind by improper polishing or automatic car washes show up most under direct sunlight. We remove them completely, leaving a clean, true reflection with no trace of the swirl pattern underneath.

Bird Dropping and Bug Etching

Bird droppings and bug residue are acidic and can eat into the clear coat if left on too long, leaving permanent marks behind. We remove the etching and restore a smooth, even finish underneath.

How We Correct Your Paint.

Paint correction isn’t one job, it’s a series of steps that build on each other. Skip one and the results don’t last. Here’s how we do it at our Sea Girt studio.

01

Step 01

Consultation

Inspection

We start by looking over every panel under bright correction lighting to see exactly what we’re working with. Swirls, scratches, etching, and oxidation all get mapped out, and we check the condition of your paint to determine how much compounding it actually needs.

02

Step 02

Prep & Decontamination

Wash & Decontamination

A full foam bath, iron removal, and clay treatment to lift everything sitting on top of the paint. Polishing over contaminated paint just grinds dirt into the finish, so this step is never rushed.

03

Step 03

Paint Correction

Compounding

This is where the heavy defects come out. Using professional compounds and machine polishers, we remove a thin layer of clear coat to level out deeper scratches and swirl marks.

04

Step 04

Install & Handoff

Polishing & Refining

Compounding removes the damage, polishing brings back the shine. We refine each panel until the surface is smooth, clear, and reflecting light evenly.

05

Step 05

Install & Handoff

Final Inspection

Every panel gets checked again under direct lighting before your car leaves. If something isn’t right, it goes back on the machine. That’s the standard.

Not every paint issue is correctable. Here's the honest answer.

Even when a defect can’t be fully removed, we can usually reduce it enough that it’s no longer noticeable, without putting your clear coat at risk. We measure your paint thickness first and walk you through what’s realistic before any compounding starts.

The Certifications Behind Every Job.

Daylan’s is a top notch detail shop for all your needs. I brought my new 2026 4runner to their Toms River location for a 9 year ceramic coating. It came out gorgeous!!!! I couldn’t be happier. Upon pickup they even spent the time to write lengthy instructions on proper care for it and what products to use and how to use them. Superb customer service from explaining all the options available in the first call to picking up the vehicle. I will only let them detail my vehicles from now on. I highly recommend them!!

I was leary at 1st having my jeep sealed, but after speaking to Matt on the phone the 1st thing that I was impressed with was how he explained step by step what was going to be done. I was basically left with no questions to ask. I spent most of the night just thinking I wasn't going to be impressed. I was wrong. When I arrived the and saw the work his crew had done, I was in awe. Now , before leaving, Matt also made recommendations on how to maintain it. Matt and his well experienced crew were fantastic. I'd recommend Daylan's Detailing to everyone thats expecting professional work. Thank you To Matt and and his techs.

Amazing job by Matt and his crew at Daylan’s in Toms River. They meticulously detailed our interior and thoroughly cleaned the exterior, including an impressive paint correction. After four years of kids taking over the car, we dropped off a heavily used and beat up vehicle and picked up one that looked brand new. The photos do not do the transformation justice and Daylan’s in Tom’s River is highly recommended to anyone looking to restore their vehicle to like-new condition.

I bought my 2020 Civic brand new and since then, it had minimal washes and was certainly in need of some attention and cleaning. After bringing it to Daylan’s, I can honestly say it looks better than the day I brought it home over 5 years ago. The scratches and swirls are gone, and both the interior and exterior are spotless. Matt made the process easy from start to finish. Absolutely would recommend and I’ll certainly be back.

Daylan, Matt and Adam were fantastic.Their team did such a fantastic job on our 2026 LC500 back in March, that my husband followed up and brought in our 2005 SLK350 for a paint correction to remove swirls an scratches, ceramic coat and headlight restoration.  Our 21 year old SLK350 looks as good as when it came off the showroom floor!

Their work is flawless and cost was very reasonable. We highly recommend them for any detailing needs.

Excellent experience! My first time using Daylans (Sea Girt location). I needed the paintless dent service for a rock that damaged my hood on the parkway, and a door ding on the rear left door. The results were great!! Very happy with the results. Friendly staff as well! Nice facility. Can't wait to try Daylans again for a professional detailing or one of their other services. Would definitely recommend, especially for people who are crazy about their cars like myself! 👍

I had an excellent experience with Daylan’s Detail Shop from start to finish.

What stood out immediately was their professionalism and attention to detail. They took the time to walk me through the tint options, explained what would best align with the look I wanted, and made sure I felt confident before moving forward. There was no pressure — just thoughtful guidance and expertise.

Working with Matt, the GM and his team, has been a pleasure. They are knowledgeable, responsive, and clearly committed to delivering quality work. It’s refreshing to work with people who genuinely values both craftsmanship and customer experience.

The tint came out flawless — clean lines, smooth finish, and exactly the aesthetic I envisioned. They also blacked out the chrome and emblems, and the transformation is striking. It gave my car a refined, cohesive look that feels elevated and intentional.

If you’re looking for precision, professionalism, and results that truly enhance your vehicle, I highly recommend them. The quality of their work speaks for itself.

Paint Correction in Sea Girt, NJ.

Our Sea Girt studio sits right on Route 35 in Monmouth County, minutes from the beach and easy to reach whether you’re coming from Manasquan, Spring Lake, Wall Township, or Point Pleasant. Being this close to the ocean is great for weekends and rough on paint. Salt air, humidity, and sand carried in on the wind wear down clear coat faster here than they do inland, which is why so many shore cars show swirls and oxidation earlier than they should.

That’s exactly the paint we work on every day. Our team knows what coastal conditions do to a finish and how to correct it properly, in a controlled studio where lighting and temperature stay consistent from start to finish.

Paint Correction in Toms River, NJ.

Our Toms River studio is located on Route 37 East in Ocean County, a short drive from Brick, Lakewood, Beachwood, and Seaside. Cars here take a beating from a different mix, heavy highway miles on the Parkway and Route 37, road salt through winter, and sun exposure all summer. All of it leaves its mark on your clear coat over time.

We correct that damage the same way we do at every location, panel by panel under proper lighting, with no steps skipped. Whether you drive a daily commuter or something you only take out on weekends, your paint gets the same attention.

Common Questions About Paint Correction.

Do new cars need paint correction?

New cars can sometimes need paint correction. Even though they come from the factory with a fresh paint job, they can accumulate minor imperfections like swirl marks, light scratches, or defects during transportation and dealership handling.

The time required for paint correction can vary widely depending on the extent of the imperfections and the size of the vehicle. Typically, it can take anywhere from a few hours to several days. A single-stage correction might take 4-8 hours, while a multi-stage correction could take up to 20 hours or more.

The longevity of paint correction depends on how well the vehicle is maintained afterward. With proper care, including regular washing, waxing, and avoiding abrasive cleaning methods, the results can last for several years. However, exposure to harsh environmental conditions can shorten this duration.

Paint correction can be done multiple times, but it’s limited by the thickness of the clear coat. Excessive correction can thin the clear coat, reducing its protective properties. Generally, a vehicle can undergo a full paint correction two to three times over its lifetime, but this varies based on the initial clear coat thickness and the extent of each correction.

Paint correction typically involves several steps, often described in terms of stages. A single-stage correction involves one pass with a polishing compound, while multi-stage corrections involve multiple passes with different levels of abrasiveness. Commonly, there are three stages: compounding, polishing, and finishing.

Paint correction can damage the clear coat if done improperly. Using abrasive compounds with too much pressure can remove too much clear coat. That’s why it’s important to use the correct techniques and products.

DIY paint correction can be challenging, especially for beginners. It requires knowledge of different polishes, correct application techniques, and the right tools to avoid damaging the paint.

Paint correction works by progressively removing a thin layer of clear coat to level out imperfections like scratches and swirls. As the clear coat smoothens, the paint underneath reflects light better, restoring the shine.
